Long before I could articulate the reason, the Detroit World African World Festival has been my favorite Detroit summer event and family tradition. Since I was little, my mom and Godmother would take me and I’d walk around for hours learning, people watching, shopping, and running into friends/fam after every few steps. For me it was heaven. I love festivals in general, but the African festival holds a special place in my heart. The combination of both African culture and that of the city of Detroit gives me nothing but warm and fuzzy feelings lol. Although the festival has changed over the years and moved from Hart Plaza to its new home at the Charles H. Wright Museum, it still draws thousands of Detroiters. This year was no different and I, of course, cleaned up when it came to shopping. Continue on to see a glimpse of the festival through my eyes and also what I took home!
