Whew! It’s been over a week since I’ve returned from NYFW and I am still tired!!!! It takes a while to come down from the whirlwind that is fashion week, so I will do my best to summarize my experience. Somehow I managed to take over 800 pictures so I will most likely do this in the form of a few posts, but here is my quick overview in a nutshell!
DAY 1
After touching down in New York , my first official assignment was to cover backstage hair and makeup for the Academy of Art show. It was held at The Arc, Skylight Moynihan Station, one of the three new homes of NYFW. Hair for the show was provided by Aveda, nails Pattie Yankee, and makeup MAC Cosmetics. I really love providing backstage coverage during fashion week, there is a completely different energy than front of house. For me it is the place where you really get to see the insider secrets of the show. See the last minute mishaps, how things are fixed, the drama, the rush of it all…I could go on and on. But backstage is definitely HIGH Energy! lol
Day 2
Day 2 was fun filled! As always, when I’m in New York I try to squeeze as many things in one day as possible, and that is exactly what I did during my second day. On the agenda for the day was coverage of the Osklen Backstage, assisting my friend Shaquita/Catrice during her first fashion show for her line A Bridge To London during fashion week, meeting with my mentor and former boss Chandra, and finally ending the day with my friend from high school Sharae! Highlights of the day included meeting celebrity hair stylist Tippi Shorter and Director of Makeup Artistry Romero Jennings. EPIC! Also I was really happy to see my Chandra! She was such a blessing to me while I was in NY as an intern and she went to Kent!
Day 3
Ok so Day 3 was absolutely perfect. One reason I really love going to NY is for the streetstyle. I tell people all the time that NY is one place where you can wear absolutely anything and no one will even bat an eye. I love the creative freedom and ability to express who you are without judgement. So with that being said, I was ecstatic to go to the ESSENCE Streetstyle Block Party in BK. I looked forward to it the entire time I was in NY and it did not disappoint! I was in fashion heaven and didn’t want to come down. At some points I was really overwhelmed being surrounded by so much creativity, culture, fashion, and freedom. It’s really hard to put into words. After the festival, I had an impromptu photo shoot with my friends, ate pizza in downtown Dumbo, went to a really cool designer pop-up shop, and ended the night at a eyewear launch.
Day 4
Day 4 was all about saying my goodbyes to the city, shopping, and catching up with friends. I became obsessed with a ring that my friend Sharae had and made it my personal mission to have one made before leaving the city. So to SoHo I went to find one, on the way, I caught up with my good friend from college Evelyn and shopped till I dropped in between the two.
My NYFW SS16 Fashion Week Experience was everything! I saw shows, went backstage, partied, shopped and dropped. My trip couldn’t have been better. I hope you enjoyed my pics! Stay tuned to my Streetstyle Post!
